CPR Certification/Dental Emergencies
About this Seminar
This seminar will be held at the state-of-the-art Clinical Learning Resource Centre on the University of Saskatchewan campus. This will provide an environment to apply practically the knowledge and skills learned. The morning session will consist of recertification of your CPR certificate or a simple refresher if your certification is still valid. In the afternoon session, we will role play common medical emergencies. This will concentrate on how to deal with them not only from agent management, but also from a communication perspective between front and back of house dental staff. This will give you knowledge and skills on how to deal with potential medical emergencies to provide best-practice patient care in these situations.
- Recertification of CPR certificate (if applicable)
- Familiarize participants with common medical emergencies such as seizures, chest pain, respiratory difficulties, unconsciousness, etc. and the agents used in their management
- Increase competency in effective communication skills with patient and dental office staff during an emergency situation
About Dr. Kabir Virdi
Dr. Virdi received his DMD from the University of Saskatchewan in 2003. He practiced with the Canadian Forces Dental Corps from 2003 - 2006, as the Dental Officer stationed in Ottawa at National Defence Headquarters. From 2006 - 2010, Dr. Virdi completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical residency at Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago, IL. Currently, Dr. Virdi is in private practice in Saskatoon with Saskatoon Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, as well as Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Dentistry.
About Dr. Craig Humber
Dr. Craig Humber was born and raised in central Ontario. He initially attended the University of Guelph where he graduated with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in chemistry. He then attended the University of Saskatchewan where he graduated with his D.M.D in 2004. He completed a general practice residency (GPR) at the University of British Columbia in 2005. He subsequently graduated from the University of Toronto with an M.Sc. and a specialty certification in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 2009.
Dr. Humber entered full-time private practice at Saskatoon Oral Surgery in 2009. Although he enjoys practicing all aspects of oral surgery, Dr. Humber’s main surgical interests are in implant dentistry, orthognathic surgery and secondary cleft palate surgery. Dr. Humber is proudly part of the Cleft Lip and Palate Team for central and northern Saskatchewan.
