Lumps, Bumps and Biopsy Techniques
About this Seminar
This hands-on course will provide practitioners with an overview of the various biopsy techniques utilized in dentistry. Strengths and drawbacks of the various techniques will be discussed and information regarding proper specimen handling, from site selection to report interpretation, will be covered. Practitioners will also have the opportunity to practice the more commonly used intra-oral biopsy techniques in a hands-on bench-top simulation lab.
Practitioners will leave the session feeling confident in their ability to make evidence-based decisions regarding when to use various biopsy techniques, how to properly perform intra-oral biopsies, how to properly submit a biopsy specimens for histopathological analysis and how to interpret a pathology report.

About Dr. Amanda Gruza
Dr. Amanda Gruza graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Dentistry in 2010 and subsequently completed a one-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Dr. Gruza then spent several years in private practice as a general dentist, and also supervised dental students as a part-time clinical faculty member at the UofS College of Dentistry. In 2019, Dr. Gruza completed her four-year, hospital-based residency through the University of British Columbia, becoming a board-certified Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologist, as well as a board-certified Oral Medicine Specialist. Dr. Gruza currently works at the UofS College of Dentistry as an Assistant Professor teaching both undergraduate dental students and post-graduate dental residents, didactically and clinically. Dr. Gruza also works in private practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist and Oral Medicine Specialist in the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
